We all need oxygen for a healthy body. Every cell in your body needs it to function correctly but oxygen can also cause oxidation.  When oxidation occurs, the chemicals in your body become altered and then become free radicals.  Other causes of free radicals are alcohol, pollution, cigarette smoke and exposure to the sun.

These free radicals can, over time, be the cause of chain reaction that then damages chemicals that are important to your body. They can also effect certain parts of your cells and also your DNA.  Researchers believe that these damaging free radicals add to the aging process and illnesses such as diabetes and cancer. To fight these free radicals you can eat certain foods that give you Vitamin A, C, E and Beta carotene.

Milk, eggs and butter are sources of vitamin A and Vitamin C is found in strawberries, oranges, kiwi, cantaloupe, broccoli, tomatoes and kale, but there are more.Vitamin E is in almonds, sunflower seeds, peanuts and green leafy vegetable. Beta-carotene comes from peas, apricots, mangoes and pumpkin, to name just a few. A diet that includes lots of fruits, whole grains, veggies, nuts and seeds is the best way to get antioxidants into your body to fight those free radicals.
